Introductory phone call

To start, I encourage you to schedule a free 15 minute introductory phone call.

 

During the call, I’ll ask you some questions to understand what you’re looking to address in therapy and to confirm I would be a good fit for your needs. I can also answer questions you may have about CBT and my therapeutic approach.

Initial sessions

Prior to our first session, I will provide in-take forms for you to complete. These will help me get up to speed about your situation as quickly as possible.

During the first session, we will review your pre-completed forms. We’ll discuss the challenges you are facing, and you will have a chance to ask questions about what to expect from future treatment sessions.

The goals of the initial session are twofold:

  • For me to gather enough information to construct a treatment plan.

  • For you to get a sense of what it feels like to sit across from me and talk.  We’ll be doing a lot of that, and it’s important that you feel safe and comfortable as we delve into the topics that are most important to you.

 

As part of our second session, I will provide you with a concrete understanding of my proposed treatment plan and what to expect from our work together.

Ongoing sessions

Our regularly scheduled sessions will follow a predictable format. We will generally begin with a ‘mood check’ focused on how you were feeling during the past week. After that, we will collaboratively set an agenda. This ensures that whatever you come in wanting to talk about takes priority. Of course, it’s not a problem if you are unsure what you want to talk about. I’ll guide us in the agenda-setting process.


Once we’ve agreed on our plan, we’ll work our way through it together. As we talk, I’ll help keep us focused to maximize the impact of our time.  You can read more about what to expect in CBT treatment here.

Payment and insurance

I ask that payment be made by cash or check at the end of each session. Although I do not accept insurance, if you would like, I can provide a monthly invoice that you can submit to your insurance company. Please confirm your out-of-network mental health benefits directly with your insurance company.
